Matt Stapleton Music

Teaching my sons and father in law to play my composition

Music Teacher

I teach violin, viola, keyboard/piano, guitar, singing, composing, arranging, conducting, music theory, and music history to enthusiasts of all ages and stages! One of the joys of the job is helping people achieve confidence through competence - there’s no one to compete with but yourself and we go at whatever pace suits you or your children. I explore a range of musical styles in the lessons including classical, folk, world, pop, rock, jazz etc. and can arrange and transcribe any piece you’re interested in. I also encourage my instrumental students to try their hand at composing their own music if they’re into it!

Musician

Check out my fiddle playing with GypsyLou and the Kingfishers , one of the bands I was in before I left Perth. I was also the fiddle player in The Gang of Three for 20 years. I know a lot of tunes and I can sing a lot of songs! I have also played in orchestras, sung in choirs and been a conductor and musical director of both. I am skilled in classical, folk, jazz, rock and pop styles. See my contact details below if you have some work for me in Vancouver!!

Bio

I was born in the south west of Western Australia in 1962, came to Perth when I was 7, and by the age of 24 had acquired a Bachelor of Music degree (with first class honours) and a Diploma of Education. Since then I have taught, played, conducted, and created music in schools and communities in WA and in England - where I met my wife Roz who is from Vancouver. We emigrated to Vancouver in April 2022 and are based out at UBC.
